Zakharia was born in 1962 in Beirut where he studied engineering at the American University of Beirut. Ever since his departure from Lebanon in 1985, he used his prized camera to document his experience as an expatriate. By 1997 he was based in Halifax, Canada, where he pursued his Bachelors’ degree in fine arts at the NSCAD University. Camille Zakharia has exhibited across North America, Europe and the Middle East. Among those, his work was shown at the Venice Bienniale for Architecture in 2010 under the Bahrain Pavilion, and at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. His works on emigration are part of the permanent collection at the Canadian Museum of Civilizations in Quebec.
